🇬🇧 London Travel News 🇬🇧

✈️ Travelling between April 18 and 22? Here's a head up about the strikes at Gatwick airport.

🖼 What do you do when you wake up with a Banksy on your home’s wall?

🚆 New potential Eurostar rival emerges with plans to run (cheaper) London to Paris trains.

Hi [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]

If I had a pound for every time someone messaged me asking “how do I pay for the tube??” or “what’s the best way to get from the airport to my hotel?”... I could afford MANY black cab rides to Heathrow (which is not even my preferred way of getting there, lol).

London transport can be confusing—especially when you're trying to figure it all out on the fly 🤔

And as much as I love the Tube, buses, Overground and ferries (yes, there are ferries!), it definitely helps to know what you’re doing before you arrive. Because when you do, you'll save money, time, and honestly... your sanity.

So in this week’s London Letter, I’m helping you avoid first-timer transport mistakes and giving you the insider knowledge that’ll make getting around London feel like second nature.

Here’s what’s coming:

🚇 The essential guide to London public transport (including what to do during a strike)
💸 How to plan smarter and save money while you do it
🗺 My top tip for affordable day trips from London
🎟 A few common tourist mistakes (so you don’t make them!)

Plus, my answer to this week’s audience question. Spoiler alert: it’s about the (silly) Oyster card...

Let’s make your London adventure easy, efficient, and unforgettable. Scroll on for all the good stuff ⬇️

🤩 What you need to know about London transport

If you’re gearing up for an unforgettable trip to the Big Smoke (that’s one of London’s 19th-century nicknames) and are planning to hop on the iconic double-decker buses or zip around on the underground, there are a few handy pearls of knowledge you should tuck into your back pocket. 🚇

Can I just tap my credit card? Do kids pay full fares? Can I pay in cash?

Understanding London’s public transport and grasping the ins and outs will make your trip a much easier one, which is why we’ve written this article about important things to know before using London’s public transport.

Flying in or out of Stansted Airport for your London trip? Make sure you hang onto this email…

There are a few options for transport between the city centre and the airport, but one of the most affordable is Flibco coach (aka bus). Flibco runs coach buses between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street station and Stratford station, both of which are major transport hubs which can get you to virtually everywhere in the city, no matter where your hotel is located.

Your tickets are fully flexible for the day you book them, so there’s no stress if your flight gets delayed and you have to catch a different coach. Plus, they run every half hour and 24/7 so you’ll never get stuck even if you have a delay or a super late or early flight.

Flibco tickets start at just £13.99 one way or £18.89 roundtrip when you book online. But… if you use the discount code LOVEANDLONDON-FLIBCO you’ll get 20% off your booking.

👉 Book your Flibco tickets here.

❓Question of the week

For four days, and when you’ve got the 50% Young Visitor Discount applied (find out more about that in our guide to paying for kids on London transport) you don’t need much.

Generally for adults, I’d say to add around £8 per day you’ll use transport and that should be enough. For this situation, halve that amount. And don’t forget you can always just add more at a self-service ticket machine which you’ll find at almost any tube station.

If you have a question you'd like me to answer in a future newsletter, reply to this email and I might answer it next week.

Last week we gave you a break from the trivia, but it’s time to check your London knowledge again ⬇️
